“We think of photography as pictures. And it is. But I think of photography as ideas." That’s one of my favorite quotes; it’s from photographer Joel Meyerowitz. That’s what happened to me with Buckeye Cemetery. I had an idea. I live a few miles down the road and I’ve driven past Buckeye more times than I can remember. Even so, I’d never thought to photograph its historic gate until one day, I did. I didn't have a particular approach in-mind. After a few minutes my intuition and my camera discovered Zen.
